A young man, a 19 year old painter, in the firelight of the cabin, announced that he was looking forward to drinking from the milk of his wive’s breast. All of the other students acted as if they had no idea what he was talking about and because I was their teacher I pretended to barely notice the comment. But in truth, his desire was a desire I did and did not understand. Human milk tastes nutty and sweet. And in regards to the posted image…wolf milk? What does wolf milk taste like? And to tug and drink from any breast communicates a trespass into the wild- into something chartered by instinct opposed to cultural dogma.
Later Romulus and Reemus, the babies feeding from the wolf, will slaughter one another. To share the body of a she-animal that is not their mother does not exclude future violences. There is no permanent bonding over a female body that will seal loyalties. In fact, do we think that animals from multiple species sharing milk and warmth will foster excess, harm, fraticide?
